Clinical supervision as an interaction between the clinical educator and the student.

2007

The interaction between clinical educators and students is regarded as the strongest element in developing expertise and in forming students' professional identity in clinical education. Although clinical education has been studied in physiotherapy, the natural interaction between clinical educators and students has remained unanalyzed. The aim of this study was to examine how supervised learning sessions during patient treatment were constructed. The focus was on the forms of interaction between clinical educators and students in natural contexts. By videotaping 12 natural patient treatment sessions, which simultaneously comprised part of the clinical education of physiotherapy students, a…

Street law alla rovescia: sperimentazioni di educazione clinico-legale critica

2021

The "upside-down street law", as I call the educational experiments that I have conducted over the course of several years, intends to challenge the assumption of the vertical monodirectionality of knowledge. How? Creating a more complex field of circulation and production of knowledge, in which the worn-out spatial metaphors of high and low culture, as well as of what is counted inside or outside the legitimate learning space, are questioned. This way of teaching law starts from an analysis of the power relations present in a certain context. And it proposes educational interventions that deconstruct these relationships by reassembling them otherwise. In the article are told some this expe…

The Italian legal clinics movement. Data and prospects

2015

It is not more than 5 years since legal clinics were founded in Italian Universities: a very recent history indeed and similar to that of other Western European countries. I will try to explain this through some data collected by an inquiry that I ran in order to have a more detailed map of this phenomena and to conjecture its future evolution. In the following paragraphs I will present the data inquiry and I will try to explain the process of establishing the Italian movement for legal education, its options and challenges. It is worth pointing out why I use the term “movement”. What is going on in Italy, and I think elsewhere, is not simply the proliferation of single clinics, but the eme…

Legal clinics in Europe: for a commitment of higher education in social justice

2016

This publication (formally an article, de facto a book) is a wide inquiry on legal clinical education in Europe. It was sponsored by and presented in European Parliament (ARDI intergroup). In the first chapter over a hundred clinical legal programs, spread in all the Union territories, are fully monitored and examined. The second chapter presents a qualitative analysis through the interviews with some protagonists of the “movement” of legal clinical education. In fact, since the comprehensive vision of this phenomenon, we can conclude that it is a “movement” because we are not simply in the presence of a proliferation of isolated experience. There is an emergence of a new trend in academia …

L’educazione del giurista contemporaneo

2021

Legal education solicits the search for a preliminary answer to the question “what is the law?”. As this latter question allows different answers depending on times, places and personal ideolog…

Inchiesta a Ballarò. Il diritto visto dal margine

2019

A method to optimize a typology-based classification system

2014

This study sought to provide guidelines for implementing typology-based qualitative analysis of human movement patterns.Fifteen participant-analysts were instructed how to classify treading water behaviours into eight different categories using a training set of videos. They were later provided with two additional sets of videos called validation, and test sets. Results first identified reliable (n=9), and not reliable (n=6) analysts. A decision study outlined that one analyst was sufficient to reliably categorize the behaviours in the ‘reliable’ analyst group, whereas up to four were necessary in the ‘unreliable’ group. These data provided new insights into more objective qualitative analy…

Evaluation of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Seoul National University Hospital

2013

The Department of Neurosurgery (DNS) of the Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH), belongs to the largest and oldest such institutions in Korea. Because of its growing reputation it is hardly surprising that the DNS draws visitor and scholars for clinical education and academic exchange from far beyond Korea. I myself visited the SNUH in February and March 2013. During this time I composed this evaluation in which I compare the DNS to my home Department at the Johannes Gutenberg-University in Mainz/Germany, as well as the situation of Neurosurgery in Korea and Germany in general. In the first part this evaluation summarizes data concerning equipment, staff and organizational structure, …
